American Carnage #1 (Vertigo Comics)

Comics are able to hold a mirror up to our world like no other medium, and no comic holds up a mirror quite like American Carnage, the new series from Vertigo. Written by Bryan Hill and drawn by Leandro Fernandez, American Carnage details a disgraced FBI agent’s attempt to infiltrate a white supremacist group, but what how far can he go without losing his soul?

Uncanny Avengers #1

Of all of the Avengers titles in All New All Different Marvel’s line up, Uncanny Avengers was the one that piqued my interest the most. A diverse team, including Spider-Man? Check. Written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Ryan Stegman? Another check. Deadpool’s in it too? If it’s anything like his tenure on Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force, it should be a blast. There’s a lot of goodwill toward this series in my eyes, but unfortunately all of these different pieces don’t add up to a satisfying debut issue.

 Rocket Raccoon #7 (Marvel Comics)

 Month in and month out, Rocket Raccoon has been one of my favorite books from Marvel. It’s a fun, light book, and issue 7 is no exception. Skottie Young and Filipe Andrade set up an intriguing new story with this issue that serves as a great jumping on point for new readers.

 Rocket Raccoon #1 (Marvel Comics)

Rocket Raccoon blasts off into his own solo series, and thanks to writer and artist Skottie Young, it’s pretty spectacular. While it’s obvious that Marvel has put this book out to cash in on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the decision to have Young write and draw the series makes this an absolute blast to read, and makes the wait between issues of Guardians of the Galaxy that much easier.
