Peacemaker (2022)

Despite the fact that 2021’s The Suicide Squad didn’t perform well at the box office, it still was one of the best movies of the year, with James Gunn injecting a whole lot of fun and insanity into the DCEU. Of the many things that movie gave us, one of the best was John Cena’s take on Peacemaker. A far cry from the version of the comics, The Suicide Squad‘s Peacemaker was essentially “douchey Captain America”, and he was hysterical. A perfect comic showcase for the WWE superstar, it introduced a whole new angle to the character, and yet even with that, a spinoff show focusing solely on him still seemed like a weird idea. But once again, we should know to trust James Gunn, as Peacemaker is one of the best shows of the year.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett (2021)

After years of rumors, delays, and restarts, the most feared Bounty Hunter in the galaxy stars in his own show. Star Wars: The Book Of Boba Fett, the latest in Disney and Lucasfilm’s sprawling Star Wars series, is the first “spin off” of the pop culture behemoth The Mandalorian, as well as being the first Star Wars vehicle to give the man behind the mask more than 5 lines of dialogue. With a fan favorite character finally being given the spotlight, Book of Boba Fett gets the chance to deliver the goods that so many action figures, (now) non-canon tie in novels, and even the second season of Mandalorian promised. Unfortunately for Fett, the shadow of his Mandalorian counterpart looms large over his show, and even at times steals it right out from under him.
