It’s now Labor Day, which can only mean one thing: summer, and the movies that came with it, are over. This summer movie season saw a huge amount of comic book and other geek friendly movies hit our screens, some good (Guardians of the Galaxy) and some bad (Amazing Spider-Man 2). So, how do they all stack up when we put them against one another? I’m glad you asked, because it’s time for my annual Summer Movie Wrap Up! Read the rest of this entry
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage
Directed by: Bryan Singer
To say that X-Men: Days of Future Past is director Bryan Singer’s apology for leaving the franchise to direct Superman Returns is an understatement. Deftly balancing the cast of the original X-Men trilogy of films and the cast from First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past is an incredible achievement in the fact that it not only wraps up the past films in a satisfying way, but also sets up some potentially awesome things for X-Men films to come. If you’ll excuse me, I’d like to use this opportunity for one last swipe at Sony’s handling of my beloved Spider-Man: this is how it’s done Sony! PAY ATTENTION! Read the rest of this entry
Yes, the summertime is almost here, and you know what that means……no, not going outside and going to the beach, summer movies! Just like summer movie seasons past, the slate of summer 2014 blockbusters is full of superheroes, aliens, and big explosions. However, there is a lack of DC being represented…
Anyways, here are the top summer movies that I’m looking forward to, starting with a certain webslinger that you all know I’m fond of:
Amazing Spider-Man 2 now rests in my brain as a paradox. I am equally anxious for it and dreading it, mainly due to some changes that may or may not have been made regarding the Green Goblin’s lineage. My spidey sense is also tingling about the news that Sony has plans for Venom and Sinister Six spin off, which means this may end up being the Iron Man 2 of the rebooted series.
Despite this, I am looking forward to seeing Spidey on the big screen again. Andrew Garfield continues to strengthen my belief that he’s a far superior webslinger to Tobey Maguire, Emma Stone is adorable as always, and Electro, a villain I’ve been waiting to see since the credits rolled on Sam Raimi’s first film back in 2002, is finally making his big screen debut. I may not like it after watching it, but I’m still excited for Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The other night I watched ABC’s Marvel: Assembling A Universe special, and was taken aback at how far we’ve come since that fateful day on May 2nd, 2008 when Iron Man first hit theaters. Back then, The Avengers was nothing more than a rumor, a pipe dream that we comic book nerds wished would happen, but tempered our expectations because it would probably never happen, and most undoubtedly suck.
2014 is only a few weeks old, and now that we’ve gotten the best and worst of 2013 out of the way, it’s time to look at some of the upcoming nerd events for the coming year. From Ghost Rider’s return to comics to Spider-Man’s new big screen adventure, 2014 looks to be a pretty exciting time for nerds, even though 2015 is going to be the year the big dogs come out to play. But I’m getting way ahead of myself. Let’s take a look at the things that will (hopefully) be awesome this year. Read the rest of this entry
