Comic Reviews: Scarlet Spider and The Flash!

COMIC REVIEWS!!!

BenReillyScarletSpider1-cover2Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider #1 (Marvel Comics)

This isn’t the first time that Marvel has tried to restart the Scarlet Spider, but it is the first time they’ve done it with Ben Reilly, the original character to don the blue hoodie. With writer Peter David and artist Mark Bagley on the book, Marvel is banking on the 90’s nostalgia pretty hard, but this series is so tied to the events of Clone Conspiracy that it may be hard for new readers to jump on board with the title. A League United

17349762_1337611299666014_1321506846992253218_oAfter months of nervous anticipation, we finally have our look at Warner Bros’ Justice League, a film that would’ve had a ton of criticism heaped upon it regardless of how Batman V Superman or Suicide Squad were received. By not going the Marvel route and introducing the rest of their superheroes as a team instead of in their own solo movies, Warner Bros is playing a risky gamble. Not only that, but they’ve also had some pretty public shake ups since the release of Batman V Superman, namely in the restructuring of DC Entertainment, which put DC writing superstar Geoff Johns into the co-chair seat. With a lot of the movie going (and comic reading public) hoping for a little more hope in their DC movies, all eyes were on this trailer to give us a taste of what to expect this November.  Now that it’s hit, what’s the prognosis? Comic Reviews: Inhumans vs X-Men and The Flash!

COMIC REVIEWS!!

ivx_1_coverInhumans vs. X-Men #1 (of 6) (Marvel Comics)

The throw down Marvel fans have been waiting for is here: Inhumans vs. X-Men (or IvX if you want to be picky). The past few years have been quite a ride for both franchises, as Marvel has made a pretty obvious ploy to play up the Inhumans while distancing themselves from the X-Men. It hasn’t worked, but IvX is the latest attempt by Marvel to try and get people to care as much about the Inhumans as they do about the X-Men. With Charles Soule and Jeff Lemire writing, and Leinil Yu drawing, it’s clear that Marvel really wants this one to work (especially because it’ll lead into their RessurXion event), but does it all add up to a readable event? Comic Reviews: Wonder Woman Rebirth and The Flash Rebirth!

COMIC REVIEWS!!!

Wonder-Woman-rebirthWonder Woman Rebirth (DC Comics)

Wonder Woman has had quite the ride for the past five years. At the start of the DC New 52 event, her series was riding high thanks to the incredible take on her mythos from Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang, but shortly after they left she fell back into obscurity and muddled storytelling. Well, with DC Rebirth comes another new start for Diana Prince, as Greg Rucka makes his triumphant return to DC’s Amazon in Wonder Woman Rebirth. One of the hottest titles of the DC Rebirth event, Rucka’s return has been pretty highly publicized after he made it known a few years ago that he’d “never work with DC again”, so how does this new one shot, with art from Matthew Clark and Liam Sharp, stack up? The Rebirth is Upon Us…

STL007326-600x923At Saturday’s Wonder Con panel, DC Comics unveiled the creative teams behind their upcoming “DC Rebirth” event, the line-wide relaunch that will help put DC’s universe back on the right path. Like with any relaunch, there’s a lot of cool stuff, and some disappointments (*COUGH* Scott Lobdell). But let’s not focus on the bad. Instead, let’s take a look at some of the titles that I’m most looking forward to in the relaunch. Read the rest of this entry

TV Superhero Showdown!

super-hero-battle-for-tvA few weeks ago I ranted and raved about Gotham, the Batman prequel series that’s been blowing up on Fox. This week I’m going to return to the TV theme, but expand it to the four other comic book shows on the major networks: Flash, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Constantine, and of course, Arrow. We’re at the midseason finales for these shows, and all of them (with one exception) have been a hit. With the news that Constantine will be wrapping up it’s season with thirteen episodes and not the usual 22, I think it’s time to take a look at all of these series and do what nerd do best: ask which one is better?
