Ah yes, another Summer has come and gone. And unlike last year, the summer of 2017 was chock full of cool stuff for us to enjoy. From the big screen to the small, there was tons of great entertainment to keep us indoors and out of the sun. So much so, that it’s almost tough to remember all the cool movies, TV, and all kinds of other stuff. Lucky for you I’ve got the list to end all best of summer lists! Read the rest of this entry
We are in a golden age of comic book movies. Sure, that’s not a huge statement to make, since Marvel Studios and other production companies have been pumping out movies for ten plus years now. But has there ever been a wide variety of GOOD comic book movies like we’ve had in 2017? Starting with Logan in March, every single comic book film released so far this year has been a hit both commercially and critically. But it’s not just the box office that’s making me think back and write this column. No, it’s what these films are saying that makes them so important. Read the rest of this entry
Spider-Man Homecoming (2017)
Starring: Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr, Michael Keaton
Directed By: Jon Watts
To say my expectations for Spider-Man Homecoming were high would be an understatement. After sitting through Amazing Spider-Man 2 and seeing Sony attempt to create their own cinematic universe and fail, the one thing I could hope for was Marvel Studios coming in and making some sort of deal with Sony to either buy the character, or take control of him and work him into their existing universe. And it happened. Now that Spidey had made his debut in Captain America: Civil War, it’s time for him to take center stage (again) in the second reboot of the character in the fifteen years he’s been on the big screen. Spider-Man Homecoming, the first movie to be made in collaboration with Sony and Marvel Studios, has a pretty daunting task ahead of it: can you get the public interested in yet another Spider-Man movie, so soon after the last one?
When it’s as good as this is, yes. Read the rest of this entry
It’s widely been known that I have some….misgivings about Sony’s plan to do a bunch of Spider-Man spin-off films without the Wall Crawler. I was about to go on another rant about how idiotic it is to have Venom movie without Spider-Man, or how you could barely get anyone to care about Black Cat or Silver Sable without introducing them in a Spider-Man movie first, but it appears that I may not have to do that. Another year, another batch of Summer movies. Unlike last year, the 2017 Summer Movie season looks to be chock full of awesome flicks. From more installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Wonder Woman’s first feature film to the return of the monstrous Xenomorphs, there’s a ton of stuff of look forward to as the temperature outside rises. But what exactly should you really be waiting for? Well, lucky for you I’m here to help you figure out what movies to spend your hard earned cash on! And we’ll kick if off with the first movie to come our way….. Read the rest of this entry
Well, apparently Sony has decided to move forward with their Venom spin off film. This is a surprising (and pretty dumb) decision on their part, because Sony’s Venom film will try to use the character without any connection to Spider-Man. Much has been made about Spider-Man’s inclusion into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many people know of Venom because of Spider-Man. So why the hell would Sony be interested in trying to get this movie off the ground in the first place?
Well, it probably has something to do with Avi Arad. Read the rest of this entry
Well, we made it. 2016 is now in the rearview mirror, and it’s full steam ahead to 2017. While this year will still feature some trying times for some of us, at least there will be plenty of things to distract us from reality. In fact, you might think that there’s TOO much stuff to distract us coming in 2017. Luckily for you, I’ve got my most anticipated things coming our way in 2017 to help you figure what you should really get excited for! Read the rest of this entry
At long last, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming is here, and it is glorious! It’s got seemingly everything I’ve been waiting for in a Spider-Man movie: quips, solid Peter Parker moments, a badass Vulture (played by Michael Keaton no less), and numerous references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It almost feels too good to be true. Read the rest of this entry
There was a lot of news that hit during last week’s CinemaCon, the annual event where studios show off the movies they have planned for the year to major theater owners and press. From the premiere of Captain America: Civil War to the announcement that we’ll be getting a solo Ben Affleck Batman movie, there were a lot of great things announced at the show. But it all paled in comparison to the news regarding my favorite wall-crawler, who’s finally making his big MCU debut in Civil War, and will get a new solo movie under the care of Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
