TV Review: Chilling Adventures of Sabrina!

People who follow my column know that I’m a big fan of Sabrina The Teenage Witch and her comic The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. So naturally, I was very much looking forward to Netflix’s series based on the Archie Horror series. My expectations were high, possibly even TOO high, but after devouring the series over the past three days, I’m happy to say that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not only one of the best debuts of the year, but also something that worked well to revitalize the franchise for a new generation. Welcome To Riverdale

riverdale-header3I’m pretty sure I’m addicted to The CW’s Riverdale.

Yes, I know, it’s weird that a thirty-year-old guy would be interested in this show to begin with, and I’m surprised as anyone to be gushing as much as I am, but here we are.

I’ll admit that my viewing of the pilot episode was for purely selfish reasons. After reading an interview with Riverdale show runner (and Archie Comics CCO) Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in which he stated “if Riverdale is successful we’ll absolutely look at other Archie properties to adapt, with Sabrina being the first one”, I knew that I’d be checking the show out, if only to get Sabrina a new show. Now, you all know my love for Sabrina, so if I had to endure watching a couple hours of teen drama to get a new Sabrina show with the premise of her awesome Chilling Adventures comic, that was a small price to pay. The Scariest Comic You’re Not Reading

And while there’s a lot of cool horror comic books that you can check out this October 31st, there’s one horror comic that’s being overshadowed by all of the Wytches, Providence, and Walking Dead issues that are on the racks. And that book is going to be a surprise. What is it? A book starring the former TGIF star Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
