COMIC REVIEWS!!!

doctor-aphra-1-coverStar Wars: Doctor Aphra #1 (Marvel Comics)

Of the vast characters in the Star Wars universe, it’s a little odd that Doctor Aphra would be the next one to get an ongoing series. After appearing in the Darth Vader series, Aphra certainly became pretty popular, but even with that, it’s a little surprising to see her name with a new #1 behind it. Luckily Vader writer Kieron Gillen is on hand to write this series along with artist Kev Walker. Since Aphra’s the first original Marvel Star Wars character to get her own series, this is pretty cool. But is this a book that’s worthy of a monthly series? After reading this first issue that’s tough to say. Read the rest of this entry

COMIC REVIEWS!!

Batman-Arkham-Knight-Genesis-720x1106Arkham Knight Genesis #1 (of 6) (DC Comics)

First things first, if you haven’t beaten the story mode in Arkham Knight, you should not read this comic (that should be apparent from a comic with the title Arkham Knight Genesis). I’ll do my best to not reveal the identity of the Arkham Knight in this review, but know that you WILL find out who Arkham Knight is within the first few pages if this issue, so if you haven’t played the game yet, you’ve been warned. In fact, the last issue of Todd McFarlane’s demonic superhero that I read was issue 200, which was pretty much incomprehensible to a lapsed Spawn reader like myself. Well, in steps Spawn Resurrection, a special one-shot issue by the new creative team of Paul Jenkins and Jonboy, designed to bring readers up to speed for the return of Al Simmons, the original Spawn. And I have to say, while it’s a very exposition heavy book, Spawn Resurrection succeeds in getting me interested in the character again. Read the rest of this entry

Batman’s quest for the body of Damian Wayne finally comes to a close in Batman & Ra’s Al Ghul #32, as the Dark Knight comes face to face with the Demon’s Head, and he’s not too happy with Ra’s plans to resurrect his daughter and grandson. Writer Peter J. Thomasi and artist Patrick Gleason are in top form with this issue, and bring us one of the most brutal Batman vs. Ra’s fights in recent memory. Read the rest of this entry
