Ever since the Punisher MAX run, it’s been hard to put Frank Castle in the main Marvel universe. With the exception of Matthew Rosenberg’s current Punisher run, any time that Frank Castle is put into the main Marvel universe it puts the character in a difficult position. But Punisher is a popular character, and isn’t immune to big sweeping line-wide events, so the War of the Realms is coming for Frank Castle, and surprisingly Gerry Duggan and Marcelo Feirrera’s War of the Realms: Punisher tie-in miniseries is a blast to read, and doesn’t try to force the character into an area that he’s not comfortable in. Almost a year after the end of the first Marvel Star Wars crossover, it’s now time for the next one. But instead of crossing over with Darth Vader, the main Star Wars title is crossing over with Doctor Aphra for “The Screaming Citadel”. As the first major event since Vader Down, there’s a lot of speculation over this story, but Keiron Gillen and Marco Checchetto are able to craft a cool little story that’s an interesting addition to the Star Wars mythos. My thoughts on the Star Wars prequels are….complicated. So when Obi-Wan and Anakin, the latest Marvel Star Wars miniseries was announced, I was hesitant. However, once I saw that Lando writer Charles Soule and Shattered Empire artist Marco Checchetto were on the book, my interest went up considerably. New York Comic Con Wrap Up!

new-york-comic-conNew York Comic Con has wrapped up for another year, and unlike San Diego Comic Con there was actually a good amount of comic book related news to come out of the con. From Dark Horse announcing comics based on James Cameron’s Avatar to Mark Hamill returning to the The Flash, there were a lot of really cool announcements for both comics and comic book based media. The toy collectors had Force Friday last week, and now Star Wars comic fans can start the anticipation machine with Marvel’s new miniseries Journey to the Force Awakens-Shattered Empire. Picking up immediately after the battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, the Greg Rucka and Marco Checcheto miniseries has a lot of hype to live up to, and while it’s setting the stage for some cool things, it’s still a set up issue in every sense of the word.
