At long last, fans of the Merc With A Mouth have gotten their wish: Deadpool is on the big screen. Wade Wilson’s voyage to the silver screen has been a long one, and after his introduction in 2009’s god-awful X-Men Origins: Wolverine, many believed that a solo movie wouldn’t happen. And yet here we are, with a Deadpool movie that stars Ryan Reynolds, is rated R, and seemingly doing justice to the character. But now that the movie is out, was it worth all the trouble to make it? After a five-year wait, Deadpool is finally getting his own movie. Yes, the only good thing to come out of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (well, in the first ten minutes) is getting his moment to shine, and the most surprising thing about it is that Ryan Reynolds is still attached to star in it.
Well, actually, it’s not that surprising. After Green Lantern failed to ignite the DC universe on screen and R.I.P.D. absolutely crashed and burned last summer, Ryan Reynolds needs Wade Wilson way more than Wade needs him. But it’s perfect casting. Reynolds’s snark and sense of humor is a perfect fit for Deadpool, and if the test footage is to be believed, we’re in for one hell of a good time in 2016.
