Almost a year after the end of the first Marvel Star Wars crossover, it’s now time for the next one. But instead of crossing over with Darth Vader, the main Star Wars title is crossing over with Doctor Aphra for “The Screaming Citadel”. As the first major event since Vader Down, there’s a lot of speculation over this story, but Keiron Gillen and Marco Checchetto are able to craft a cool little story that’s an interesting addition to the Star Wars mythos. jul160269Batman Beyond Rebirth #1 (DC Comics)

For long time now the Batman Beyond property has been a tough nut for DC Comics to crack. The now classic TV show has a huge following, but the numerous times that DC has tried to tap into that audience with a Batman Beyond comic have fallen flat. For some reason, Terry McGinnis’ adventures haven’t been as easy to bring to the paneled page as they should be. Until now. Dan Jurgens and Ryan Sook’s Batman Beyond Rebirth special hits all the right beats, and brings us all up to speed on the Dark Knight of tomorrow’s current adventures. Read the rest of this entry

Remember how I said last week that Old Man Logan was my “most anticipated Secret Wars tie-in”? I lied.

Like many children of the 90’s, I have a soft spot for the Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson marriage. For most of my comic book reading life, Spider-Man was a married man. While the events of One More Day lead to resurgence in the stories that Marvel was able to tell with the webslinger, I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that longs for the return of the status quo that I grew up with. Thankfully, Secret Wars has me in mind, and this week sees the return of the Spider-Man marriage with Dan Slott and Adam Kubert’s Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1. Read the rest of this entry

Marvel REALLY wants you to care about the Inhumans. So much so that they’re putting Charles Soule and Steve McNiven, the creative team behind last year’s hit Death of Wolverine, on a brand new zero issue designed to catch you up to speed in time for the new Uncanny Inhumans series….that’s launching in about 3 months after Secret Wars. Comic Reviews: Original Sin, Red Claw, and Futures End!

ORIGINAL_SIN_ELEMENTSOriginal Sin #1 (of 8) (Marvel Comics)

The next big Marvel event is HERE! Original Sin, written by Jason Aaron and featuring art by Mike Deodato, kicks off today, and so far it’s a pretty cool murder mystery. Someone has killed Uatu the Watcher, and it’s up to some of Marvel’s top heroes to piece together who killed the big bald guy.

I’ll refrain from the major spoilers for this issue, but I will say that this is one of the better starts to a Marvel event. Jason Aaron doesn’t waste any time setting up this mystery, and gets to the death of Uatu fairly quickly. The stage is set for our heroes from that point, with Captain America calling on the retired Nick Fury (the old white guy one) to assemble a group of heroes to try and find the killer.
