Doctor Rogue Squad
Did you forget about Rogue One? It’s okay, I almost did too. But we’ve finally got our first look at the film, and holy hell does it look awesome. The first of Disney’s Star Wars “anthology” films, this will be the real test for Disney’s take on the world that George Lucas created. “But Force Awakens made a butt load of money” you say. That’s true, but Force Awakens also had the benefit of not only being the first of the Disney Star Wars movies, but it also had the most connections to the original trilogy. Appearances from Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, R2-D2, and more were going to generate interest. It had the curiosity factor. But Rogue One? This is an entirely new story set between movies.
But that story is one that we haven’t really heard before. Sure, we know that Rebel spies stole the Death Star plans before A New Hope, but now we’re going to see the (new) story of how that went down. And according to the trailer, it all focuses on Jyn, the lead played by Felicity Jones. Judging from the trailer, it seems like she’s even too hardcore for the Rebellion, but just the person to go in and steal the Death Star plans. Is she being set up for a fall by the Rebellion? Or is she going to be a scrappy underdog who knows what’s up before it begins?
Not only that, but over the weekend we got ANOTHER Suicide Squad trailer, and I gotta say, it looks like a ton of fun. There’s definitely more of a focus on the other members of the team this time around, with Margot Robie’s Harley Quinn once again stealing the show. At this point I think I’m more excited for Suicide Squad than I was for Batman V Superman, mainly because I don’t know just what the hell to expect from it. It’s either going to be a huge hit for Warner Bros, or one of the weirdest comic book movie misfires of all time.
Both of these trailers have me super pumped, but let’s not forget that ANOTHER trailer has dropped this week too. No, not the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them trailer (though that one is pretty great), it’s Doctor Strange! Benedict Cumberbatch’s crazy caped sorcerer’s movie has been one that I’ve been dying to see, and I gotta say, HOLY CRAP. My head is ALREADY spinning from the crazy stuff they’ve shown in the Doctor Strange trailer, and this is just a glimpse into what Marvel and Scott Derrickson have planned!
Man, what a time to be alive.
